Charlie Crist's Political Life Is Over

Good ole Governor Charlie Crist, chief of the great state of Florida, did not choose wisely today. He has no chance of winning the Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez in a three way race and it has completely ended his career as a politician. He will not be embraced by either party ever, that I can guarantee. In the last year he has shown himself to be one of the most rudderless politicians I have ever seen. The man is not guided by any principles that are obvious. He and his fake orange tan have clearly their own interests in mind when it comes to his decision to run as an Independent. He has been listening to the MSM media, chirping for him to run as a third party candidate. He is cut of the same faux conservative cloth as Lindsay Graham and John McCain, these guys just want to be loved and take positions that are popular with the chattering classes for that moment, instead of standing on any sort of guiding philosophical principles. Hack politicians, all of them.

Here again I blame the NRSC and the RNC for getting behind an establishment candidate way too early in the primary season. Instead of waiting to let the Florida voters decide who would represent the Republican party in the general, they threw their hat in the ring early. By doing this AGAIN (Arlen Specter anyone?) they have egg on their face as one they gave early support to ends up bolting the party because the idea of a rough primary battle is too much for them to handle. Now it seems Mr. Crist is doing the classless thing and not giving back the donations given to him by loyal Republicans who thought they were supporting one, he has tied up all his money into ad buys through November so he can claim he has no money to give back. Rubio has proven he can outraise him better than 3-1, and now Crist will be in the unenviable position of having the crosshairs directly on him from conservative groups like Club For Growth. The way they crushed Arlen Specter in PA by funding an effort to have Specter donors ask for their money back. His poll numbers will slowly erode as people realize this move for what it is and as even moderate Republicans leave the fold to vote for their party's candidate in November. The more they get to know Rubio and his stands on the issues the more it will become clear that Charlie has none.

The sad thing is it did not have to come to this for Charlie. He could have easily backed out of this race, endorsed Rubio, return to his already elected position as Governor and cross his fingers and have a go at Bill Nelson's Senate seat in 2012. He would have looked like the bigger man realizing that the political atmosphere was not right for someone who embraced the stimulus and other liberal goodies. All the while, saving face, his donors, and keeping the backing of one major party. Now I think all three are likely gone forever.

By The Time I Get To Arizona...

That's the title of a Public Enemy song from Apocalypse '91, the album that marked the beginning of the end for a great rap group. But that's a conversation for another day. It's a protest song of Governor Evan Mecham's not so smart decision to rescind the MLK holiday in 1987. Certainly Mecham was not an excellent representative of that fine state, he was impeached within 15 months of election and was never really liked by his own party, the Republicans. He had many failed runs at state level and somehow was able to win the governorship after a split in the Democratic ticket. Why all the background on that? Well I felt it was important to give some context to the current controversy surrounding Arizona and the immigration law that just passed. Since of course the knee jerk liberal response, as well as the media's, is to cry racism on the passing of SB-1070.

The Arizona law makes it a state crime for aliens not to have their documentation on them. Draconian you say? Not so much. The law is basically a regurgitation of existing federal statutes that the federal government has no interest in enforcing. The Arizona law states quite explicitly:

For any lawful contact made by a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency of this state or a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency of a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person, except if the determination may hinder or obstruct an investigation.

Really not sure how that differs much with 8 U.S.C. Sec 1304(e):

Personal possession of registration or receipt card; penalties
Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times
carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate
of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to
him

So the big problem with the racial identity groups, liberals and offended persons everywhere is that Arizona would like to address a real issue for their state by enforcing a federal statute? These people are offended that "undocumented" people should be forced to carry documentation or be thrown in jail in accordance with federal statute. The police already have the authority to ask about someones legal status, something the Supreme Court has upheld at every argument. Police questioning according to the Court does not violate any Fourth Amendment right. Clearly the objections to the law can't be on legal grounds. So what are they based on?

Maybe it is questions of abuse? That could be a legitimate concern, since we certainly do not want a police state where everyone with brown skin is suspicious. Oh never mind that the law cited above says "lawful contact"...meaning people already stopped for other violations and such. Governor Jan Brewer signed an executive order to go along with the law, calling on a training program on racial profiling. Let's be realistic though about the problem going on in Arizona. The state has an estimated 460,000 illegals in a state whose population is around 6.6 million. Of those, 80% are Latino so logically they will be the ones most affected by such enforcement. But once they are in, there is no nice easy way to get them out. It is obviously better to actually enforce the southern borders, but that is something Washington refuses to do. It is the proverbial hot potato no one wants to get burned by. The Bush administration talked about a "virtual fence" and the current administration has scrapped even that. The way the media portrays it, one party is going to ingratiate themselves to Hispanics forever and one is going to alienate them. I do not think that is true as most polls show that Americans in general favor enforcing current laws. Never mind that 70% of Arizonans agree with the passage of their law.

I know what is bugging them, the term "reasonable suspicion" also in the law. Abuse can occur when rogue cops everywhere just had "reasonable suspicion because they were Mexican", is the logic. But what they fail to note or maybe understand is that in order to get to reasonable suspicion you have to pass through lawful contact. Logically speaking you must have one before you have the other. The lawful contact with an officer must occur first, then if reasonable suspicion you ask for their alien cards or other identification. What is so harsh about that? You mean to tell me no other laws are enforced in such a manner? Seat belt laws, cell phone while driving laws, even some drug possession laws are all codified with such stipulations (of course that varies state to state).

Look Arizonans should not tolerate the absolute lack of enforcement of Federal laws already on the books, so they simply made federal law a state law so they can enforce such. I am no Constitutional law scholar but I believe this is totally fine and dandy in our system. I am also a Latino and never have been offended or hurt by such laws. If you decide to make a certain country your place of residence and then earn money in that country you are subject to that countries laws. Once again though the liberal playbook of identity politics is front and center, and you have the President calling it "misguided" and thinking out loud if the Federal Gov't should poke it's nose into it. They are never quite interested in Americans or our laws and traditions, as much as they are hyphenates and other perceived victims of America.

Maybe the liberals are just mad that it may require a certain section of the population to go out and get something required (mandated) by the federal government? Hmmmmm....

They ARE On To Something...

Al Sharpton In The White House?

I love it when our President can't even be distinguished from the best of race hustlers. What happened to post-racial? This man shows each and every day why liberal politics are all about dividing us into this group, or that group. From the Sonia Sotomayor nomination, to this pathetic attempt to psyche up the "young people, African Americans, Latinos and women" who "powered" him to victory in 2008, we see quite clearly the rhetoric liberals prefer to use. Instead of reaching together for all Americans it is always about assigning victimhood and running with it. As a labeled Latino or Cuban-American, I prefer policies that help everyone not singular groups. Well at least President Obama hasn't falsely accused a white police officer of mishandling his authority in the name of raaaacism.......oh what was that? Oops oh yeah forgot....

One Step Closer

Is anyone surprised by this story? Everyone of his promises has an expiration date, it has been well documented. The man who finally admitted he was "agnostic" to raising taxes on EVERYONE is now coming clean with his admiration for the VAT. For those unfamiliar with the VAT (Value Added Tax), it basically is a tax on just about everything you consume. Would it be so much to ask for a little restraint on the spending? This being said I do not know how this type of tax would pass any muster in Congress. The Senate in a non-binding resolution voted 85-13 to call the VAT "a massive tax increase that will cripple families on fixed income and only further push back America's economic recovery."

The headwinds for this administration to add anything more to their liberal Christmas list (cap and trade, net neutrality, fairness doctrine,etc.) are quite stiff. The American public is fully engaged and completely aware of what Obama and his radical agenda are up to so the odds are it won't happen. Although at one point I thought the healthcare bill was politically dead in the water. We just have to wait and see the level of arm twisting and how much political capital he is willing to expend.

I have not had the time to write as much the last couple of days so I apologize for just sticking links up here lately. Hope to get to more writing soon.

More proof that the media's whole point of covering the tea party movement is to label it racist, homophobic and any other epithet they can think of. Forget actually reporting the news or the actual events, it's constant editorializing. They just cannot handle the fact that Americans have realized that the man who campaigned as a centrist is really a radical leftist in not such great disguise. Why is the established dinosaur media so behind the curve? Well it was they who sold this man to us. As Jim Geraghty points out today over at NRO:

This story had been going around the blogosphere for a couple of days now but I tend to hold back on these types of stories until other news outlets pick it up or there is video/pictures. Too many times these things turn out to be hoaxes, but there was a lot of angry SEIU thugs protesting outside the SRLC in New Orleans for a few days last week. These union leaders cannot handle that we have exposed the liberal policies as disastrous, they cannot handle that they may lose "favored nation" status in a Republican Congress, and they cannot handle the fact that anyone disagrees with them. Coincidence?

The fact that 47% of Americans escaped taxes altogether this year and 45% according to Gallup say they are paying the "about right" amount strikes an interesting point. When does too many tax cuts begin to be counter productive? While I support the Bush tax cuts, and this evidence clearly shows that those cuts were across the board and not "favoring the rich" as the liberals (who don't understand math or economics) loooooooove to say, the cuts at the very bottom of the spectrum have created millions of freeloaders. Since those are now liability free and riding high on the middle and top of the country, what gives? To believe in true fiscal responsibility and conservatism all (outside of the permanently disabled of course) should be carrying SOME load. Even if it is slight. To me the fact that now 47% of Americans do not kick in is appalling. You mean to tell me that almost half of the country is incapable of making a decent wage and paying taxes. I call bulls*it!

The problems are multiple of course, from the AMT to the ever increasing complexity of the tax codes. Conservatives in Congress and across America have been fighting against those two things specifically for decades. Hopefully now that people are waking up to the house of sand we are presently built on, we can exact some real change to policies that have prevented us from ever fixing the core issues of taxation. We have gone from a nation of "taxation without representation" to "representation without taxation"...

I have always been personally appalled at the NJEA's constant insistence that their 5% raises are "for the kids", are they kidding me? Is your kid going to learn any less if these teachers are getting no guaranteed raise this year? Look it's time to turn public school teaching back into the noble profession it once was, not some road to riches that so many of them see it as. If the rest of the community is hurting they should be fronting some of that burden. These people have jobs by the grace of the taxpayers in their communities paying exorbitant taxes, that are becoming ever more exorbitant thanks to their largesse. Private sector jobs have been evacuating this state at an enormous rate, yet last year alone these municipalities hired an additional 11,300 people. Let me remind you that is on the taxpayers back, those salaries and those benefits FOR life. Amazing. So Governor I say to you keep doing what you are doing,let the unions attack you but keep making the right decisions for New Jersey. This road is the hardest, but it is about time we have a grown up in Trenton.

Is This How They Are Selling It?

Are people buying this explanation? Debbie Wasserman-Schultz(D-FL), who I think gets her mail sent to MSNBC since she is on Maddow/Olbermann about every night, is a well spoken liberal robot but seems to be missing the point in this clip below. Or she is lying,which in either case means we're screwed.



Now what is wrong with her answer you say. She is basically saying that buying health care, or not, will afford you different tax status and that's why it is Constitutional. Well I do not argue with the first clause of that statement, it is how she got to her conclusion that has me shaking my head. According to her logic, it would stand that you would get penalized for not buying a home. Not true, while yes you receive a tax credit on the interest you pay for a mortgage, you do not pay extra (meaning outside of what you are already paying) for not purchasing a home. With health insurance, if you do not buy insurance you will be penalized. Meaning you will pay extra taxes. You do not get a line item on your taxes that penalizes you for renting an apartment, do you? Also if your home is paid for, it no longer reaps those benefits. It will have others but that is not the scope of her argument.

According to her logic, being married affords you a favorable tax status and therefore consistent with her Constitutionality argument, if marriage is allowed so is injecting health insurance to the tax code. Well it does afford some benefits, but filing single does not come with a penalty of extra taxes. I see where she is going but the long to short is that no where in history have we required anyone to purchase a product at risk of being PENALIZED by the FEDERAL government. Because nowhere in our Constitution does it allow for such behavior. If anything, that document provides a pretty strong idea of what the Government CANNOT do. And don't give me the car insurance analogy...you couldn't give me anything more totally irrelevant. Auto insurance mandates are provided by the states according to their own laws, if anything it bolsters the argument that the Feds should NOT be involved and it is a decision best left to the citizens of that specific state.

The argument i sometimes hear from lefties is the fall back :" Well Ocho in the Preamble it says 'promote the general welfare'...". Two things wrong with that, first off lefties usually have no idea that it came from the Preamble and secondly they aren't familiar with the guy who wrote that, James Madison. He wrote after the fact:

With respect to the words general welfare, I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.

President Madison there makes it quite clear what is meant by that clause. That he assumed that the general welfare would be qualified by the enumerated powers NOT to be taken in an unlimited sense. As he states that would morph the Constitution into something it is not. Sounds like the modern Democratic Party has never read or cared about our forefathers.

Why I Read HuffPo

Two reasons really, one is to read the occasionally well articulated liberal schtick, but mostly it is for the reams of unintentional comedy found over there. They have that schmuck actor who was on Wings (and nothing else), Steven Weber contribute. Now I am not sure of his education background but his writings evoke maybe 6th grade level at best. I have never seen so many incomplete thoughts in a short column. All joking aside, how do you have a conversation or debate on real issues when you get THIS constantly from the other side: the leftists "go-to" move in an argument....the race card:

Even after realizing that Obama, master of many things they aren't, is also demonstrating a centrist rather than a dreaded leftist approach to governance, in many ways incorporating aspects which they themselves have favored in the past, to put forward his workable agenda as opposed to the armageddon/fascist/socialist dystopia the frothing Republican mouthpieces warned of, they still refuse to play.

This Alinsky tactic of "ridicule as man's most potent weapon" is the core of how Leftists coordinate their attacks. It is never about policy it is always a personal battle. Or as Alinsky states in Rule 11 of Rules For Radicals "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it". So thank you again HuffPo for providing Mr. Weber a soapbox to spout his useless inanities. I really do appreciate it because it illustrates so much, and I don't have to do too much work analyzing.

Keep Marginalizing The "Tea Party" Activists

[UPDATE: As if on cue, Gallup released a poll April 5th that backs up the findings of The Winston Group I cited below, and they are even more detailed. I wonder how the MSM is gonna spin this one... Here are the results: Tea Partiers Are Fairly Mainstream in Their Demographics]

I am actually encouraging the Democratic Party and the lefty bloggers to continue doing it. A couple of reasons, one it really shows their true colors as experts of the ad hominem attack and secondly, it will lead to the electoral demise of said leftists.

Why do I believe in the second half of that statement? Where's my proof? Well of course we will not know until November how deep the damage the leftists have incurred on themselves but if the recent polling done is any indication of the trend, it could be brutal. That being said Republicans will have an enormous task of turning 41 seats to regain House control. Meaning a 1994 type of landslide, is it possible?...sure, is it likely?...not really. That's just the numbers of it all. The real damage that the continual demonizing does is show that the Democrats/Leftists could care less about the rest of the country and that is something that festers and stays through an election cycle or two, if ably handled by the opposition party (that is a HUGE if). This painting of all Tea Partiers as racist and trying to parallel the health care fight with Civil Rights is insulting everyone's intelligence. As Andrew Breitbart,speaking about the race baiting, put it:

The Democratic Party is trying to signal to the black community and to progressive media types that the way to push back against the Tea Party and Republicans is to use the reliable race card by provoking a racial incident. The ensuing rhetoric about the bill and about the nature of the Tea Party is based upon repeated talking points. Propaganda. Everyone is on message that Republicans and Tea Partiers are racist — a divisive and dangerous argument, so lacking in any shred of evidence save for the fact that the majority in the Tea Party, as in America itself, is white. This is Duke lacrosse politics at its worse.

It isn't to be taken seriously and that is the problem with Libs constantly shouting "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater. All they continue to do is trivialize real racist behavior. As I have said before, if everything is racist, then nothing really is. And once again the Lamestream Media is complicit and actually partnering with them to continue with this racist meme:

The other part of the strategy that is built into the N-Word Capitol Hill Walk is the strategy to incite. The media is doing their job for them by speaking of an unhinged white Tea Party mob. Absent any evidence other than creatively selected hand-crafted signs from the fringe of the audience that are presented to represent the whole, the media is simply repeating assumptions that Democrats and media elites have against fly-over types. What we have here is hardcore media elitism mixed with politically correct class warfare.

It's just piss poor logic, a fallacy of composition...one or even 50 wingnuts carrying a sign does not and cannot logically characterize a movement of millions. Unfortunately for the rest of us, logic does not begin to factor in most of their arguments so it is difficult to converse with these nimrods about what exactly they are doing. All that being said since they are painting with the broad brush, they really should understand exactly who they are attacking. Via latest polling data at The Winston Group:

Tea Party activists may be ardent supporters of economic conservatism but are similar to the overall electorate when it comes to economic priorities, according to the findings of a new report released by The Winston Group today on the political movement.
In one of the most extensive looks to date at just who Tea Party activists are, how they think, and the ideas that matter to them, the report found that 17% of the people polled considered themselves “part of the Tea Party movement” and more than four in ten Tea Party members said they were either Independents or Democrats.

So please Democrats continue tearing these people down, they are exactly the group who won Obama's last election and your majorities in 2006. It wasn't the hard left who carried the day for Obama it was middle class independents. These are people as pointed out by Shelley at Kicking Over My Traces that:

When Tea Partiers resist attempts by Democrats to add further to the federal deficit, they don’t think it is a winning tactic for Democrats to push forward a tu quoque defense by accurately accusing Republicans of similar budgetary madness.
Tea Partiers call a pox on both their houses and want the bad behavior of both Parties to stop.
Tea Partiers make up a big portion of those who sat on their hands when called to government-sponsored activism.
Tea Partiers know that life is made up of a lot more than what the government should poke its nose into.

So please Democrats continue to vilify, look foolish and cry racism at the drop of a hat. It just might put us back on the right track again beginning this November.

As usual Victor Davis Hanson shines the light of his analysis on an issue I have ignored lately. In between all the Health Care talk and the daily outing of liberal idiocy, the issue of terrorism has been overshadowed. It is an extremely important issue for all Americans, and the whole Western World. As he points out in the article most conservatives are flummoxed by this Presidents handling of terror issues:

I can’t think of a present-day anti-terrorism methodology that Team Obama (a) did not at one time blast as anti-constitutional and (b) does not now accept in its near entirety. Apparently, Obama has figured (perhaps rightly) that intercepts, the Patriot Act, Predator air attacks, renditions, tribunals, wiretaps, etc., are necessary, and that their earlier damnation by Obama et al. was simply political demagoguery of the sort necessary to galvanize the left-wing base that, now, forgivingly, accepts these measures as needed.

On one hand he has a leftist terrorist defending radical lawyer as head of his Justice Department, yet on the other he has in many ways (more ways than the left cares to admit)continued many of Bush's anti-terrorist policies. Policies that as a Senator he constantly belittled. Interesting turnaround?

The sheer arrogance and contempt of this Congressman to tell his constituents that the Constitution "doesn't matter to him". The problem with legislating by sob story is that anyone can find a story about anything. This "reform" does exactly as the interviewers say it does, the Congress is legislating the forcible purchase of a private good or service. Unheard of and of course these nimrods can't point out where they get that authority....you know why? Because it isn't there. Everything that Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) spoke, outside of his little sob story, was a total disgrace and the man is lying straight to their faces. To tell them he read the whole thing 3 times is absurd, if he did then he would know the mandate was there and he would also know that this is not insuring an extra 30 million Americans. The lunacy that continues to spill out of the mouths of the defenders of this bill knows no bounds. Well get used to it because even though the taxes kick in right away, the "benefits" won't be seen for at least another 4 years. Expect to get an earful for the next 4 years, Dumocrats.

This Is Too Funny

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is yet another liberal somehow given a job as a congressman, a shaper of laws and ideas, walking the hallowed halls of the Capitol...yes I am laughing as I write this. Hey Georgia I am very embarrased for you.

Johnson expressed his worries during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the defense budget Thursday.

Addressing Adm. Robert Willard, who commands the Navy's Pacific Fleet, Johnson made a tippy motion with his hands and said sternly, "My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."

Willard paused and said: "We don't anticipate that."

Like other islands, Guam is attached to the sea floor, which makes it extremely unlikely that it will tip over, even if there are lots and lots of people on it. Guam is 30 miles long and up to 9 miles wide in certain spots, with a population of 175,000 civilians. The military is proposing the addition of 8,000 U.S. servicemembers and their families.

Reached for comment, a spokesman for Johnson said the lawmaker had visited Guam, and his concern was that the influx of military personnel would overwhelm the island's infrastructure and ecosystem.

The comment comes 1:20 into the clip.

Yes, he was an Iraq defeatist, and granted, he demagogued Joe Wilson’s outburst in the scummiest way imaginable, but he’s also a guy with a serious illness that affects his mind (“he regularly gets lost in thought in the middle of a discussion”). Although if that’s what’s going on here, a polite question for Madam Speaker arises: What’s he doing at these hearings instead of resting?

All things considered, this guy did beat the always classy Cynthia McKinney, so I rather prefer his brand of lunacy than hers.

I always enjoy a good reading of the latest ratings disasters for CNN and MSNBC. The lack of revenue for the New York Times and their ilk give me great satisfaction, as they are trashed onto the heap of irrelevancy. People know they flat out misrepresent (only a "dozen or so" people showed up for a Tea Party rally in Nevada?) and have toed the liberal line for decades. Everyone has had enough and is looking more and more to independent (i.e. NOT overtly liberal) minded media outlets like the Internet and Fox News. I will enjoy watching them go down the drain...
